If you are suffering from diabetes, then controlling your blood sugar or glucose is crucial. However, sometimes the warning signs can be very mild, and you don’t even know you are suffering from diabetes until the disease causes some long-term damage.
Let us take a look at some of the early signs that indicate blood sugar problems.
Hunger and Fatigue
Your body converts the food you consume, into cells that are used for energy. However, your cells require insulin to take in glucose. If your body doesn’t make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin that your body is making, then the glucose can’t get into them, which leads you to have no energy. This can make you hungrier or tired than normal. Diabetic people can generally experience that they may be losing more weight, despite eating more.
Urinating More than Often and Being Thirstier
Although the average person urinates between five-six times in a period of 24 hours, people suffering from diabetes might go a lot more. This is due to the fact that the body reabsorbs glucose as it passes through the kidneys. But when due to diabetes, your blood sugar is pushed up, your kidneys might not be able to bring it back in. This can cause the body to make more urine that takes fluids. This causes excess urination.
Dry Mouth and Itchy Skin
Since your body uses fluids to make urine, then there is less moisture for other things. This can lead to dehydration and your mouth feeling dry. Dry skin can lead to itchiness.
Blurred Vision
Due the changing fluid levels in your body, the lenses in your eyes may swell up. They can change shape and be unable to focus.
Tingling or Numbing Sensations in your Skin
You might notice a tingling sensation or even numbness in your hands and feet if you are having diabetes. High blood sugar can lead to nerve damage, which is termed as diabetic neuropathy. You can avoid this if your diabetes is controlled properly.
If you are older than 45, and experience any of these problems persistently, then it is important to talk to your doctor soon.
