Laryngtectomy is a procedure in which the larynx (also called voice box) is removed and separated from the nose, mouth and esophagus. In total laryngectomy, the entire larynx is removed, whereas, in partial laryngectomy, a part is removed. After the procedure, the patient breathes through an opening in neck called ‘stoma’. This procedure is usually done in case of oral and head & neck cancer. Laryngectomy is done by Head & Neck surgeons.
